Miles From Home
The Traffic and Climate Impacts of Marin's Unaffordable Housing
Miles from Home, a new report from Live Local Marin, explores the impact that the lack of workforce housing in Marin has had on traffic and our environment. We think you'll agree it provides vital data supporting the need for new affordable housing opportunities in Marin County. Bay Area Affordable Housing Survey Report
Prepared for the Non-Profit Housing Association of Northern California
By Hertz Research, Bodega Bay, California
January, 2010
NPH recently commissioned a public opinion poll of over 800 residents in the nine Bay Area counties. The poll assessed how the current economic crisis is affecting our Bay Area neighbors, and their own housing situations, as well as popular support for affordable housing. The results are compelling—both in the depth and breadth of the affordable housing crisis in the Bay Area and the options which the public appears likely to support.

Making the Bay Area a More Affordable Place to Live: Progress Report on Proposition 1C
As with Proposition 46, NPH is tracking Bay Area awards from Proposition 1C, California’s largest single investment in affordable housing to date. NPH’s latest report compares the programs of Proposition 46 and 1C to show amounts awarded by county and program. It also shows the expected homes and jobs created in the Bay Area from the first round of Proposition 1C awards. NPH will continue to monitor Proposition 1C funds as they are awarded, and look forward to amazing affordable homes resulting from these funds, which are the key to California’s future.

The survey was focused on how residents were getting to work, school, doctors and other common destinations. If they chose to live in affordable housing closer to the destinations they visited most frequently, and how often they drove. This slide show contains some of the findings from that survey.
