a. 100% Senior Households vs. No Senior Households - Bay Area
b. 100% Senior Households vs. No Senior Households - By Income
c. 100% Senior Households -- Vehicle Ownership By Unit Type
d. 100% Senior Households --  Vehicle Ownership By Tenure

This section looks at the vehicle ownership patterns of households which are composed completely of persons who are seniors.  Thus the data has direct relevance of the parking needs of affordable senior housing developments.  Of course, vehicle ownership rates will vary in different locations, however, the data shows that senior households own significantly fewer vehicles than households at large.

Observation Households composed entirely of seniors own significantly fewer vehicles per household than average.
Implication Minimum parking requirements should be lower for housing dedicated to seniors.

The data used if either from MTC's 1990 Household Travel Survey or the 1995 Nationwide Personal Transportation Survey.  The data below is also available in Excel - Age and Vehicle Ownership
